Flying in the morning sky on 11th October, over the holy river of Ganga, the city was looking mind blowing. The view of science city and the flats of salt lake from the sky filled my heart with good old memories. This was my first DURGA PUJA in Kolkata since 1998. I was dying to see the city dressed in lights for the biggest festival and I was not disappointed. The city of joy was overflowing with people all over the streets as if nobody was in there home even throughout the night. Everybody was out of their homes for 4 days visiting puja pandals. People have to stand in the queue for half an hour just to have a single glimpse of Goddess Durga. The streets were full of small shops serving delicious food crowded with people. No Bengali has food in home during puja. I seriously have no words to describe the beauty of the pandals all over the city. From Ekdalia to FD, I was speechless with the work of art and lights. One of them were made just from caps of coca cola bottles while another one was made from plastic tablespoons and another one from small pebbles. Watching these pandals go down after DASHMI was disheartening. I think these great piece of artwork should be preserved in a museum. Every pandal I visited, found goddess Durga in some different form. With over 5,000 such pandals all over the city, I wonder how they maintain such versataliy. Every idol was masterpiece, the second one more amazing than the first. Even the day after Dusshera , the biggest festival for the city, it was right back on track with people rushing to offices in crowded buses and metros. Like nothing happened yesterday. I was able to feel same warmth in people and same delicacy in street food. Nothing was changed. Oh! I missed you like hell. On the last day of my Trip, enjoyed GANGA SANAN at DAKHINESHWAR MANDIR. A boat ride over the river with cold breeze blowing totally sends you to some different world from which you would never like to come back. BELUR MATH was amazing too. The quiet environment by the side of ganga in these beautiful place forces you to get into spiritual world. This trip was a whole family reunion for me. Had a superb time with my two cousins. We all met at one place and enjoyed the puja after about 7 long years. I got to spend quality time with my family. I will really cherish these 10 days forever in my life. Finally the day came when I had to part my ways from my family and Kolkata. I am really missing you all. Waiting for the time in my life when I would never have to stay away from my family and Kolkata. “JANI NA ABAR KOBE DEKHA HOBE, LOVE U KOLKATA”
