Foam rolling is a form of SMR, or self myofascial release. Basically smr is a massage used to loosen up muscles tight or shortened from working out or staying in flexed positions for long periods of time, and can be done by applying pressure to your muscles (you can use anything, it doesnt need to be an actual foamroller). When this happens, your tight muscles begin to cause undue stress on the tendons which translates to joint pain. Got knee pain? Chances are your quads or calves (or both) are super tight. Elbow pain? Check your biceps and triceps! SMR is CRUCIAL in keeping your joints healthy and maintaining/restoring mobility and flexibility, and it also helps to reduce soreness and speed up recovery. The protocol is to SMR and then stretch (stretching beforehand cant tighten the knots in your muscles even more) and it can also be used to warm your muscles up. The key to SMR is CONSISTENCY! You will notice an immediate change but you wont get lasting results without consistency and the more you do it the less it hurts! You want to find the tightest spots (the ones that make you go AGGGGH! AGGGAHH!) and work em out! Your body will thank you in the long run! ------------------------------------------ #fastactionfitness #trainer #hiit #tabata #circuittraining #sandiego #sandiegofitness #foamroll #smr
