Focus on Business (but can also relate to personal): Change and Transformation. Theres a good thought provoking article on Linked In regarding this subject, I of course participated in the subject, figuring that on a personal level, in addition to my corporate experience I have participated both in Change and Transformation. ...to following the article and comment thread: linkedin/today/post/article/20140714023453-85816712-the-difference-between-change-and-transformation?anchorTime=1405313127177&deepLinkCommentId=5894310470571024384&trk=hb_ntf_MEGAPHONE_LIKE_TOP_LEVEL_COMMENT My Comments are: This just sums up why change within context of a transformation especially when it involves many people can be so challenging, we all have different perceptions and thats wonderful as its called the gift of Will & Choice. The challenge is in corporate transformation, is having the perception of the people closely aligned to that of the transformational objective, which nowadays is usually forced or initiated by another party, usually top-down (challenge No.1). Everyone (without exception) will have a different agenda (challenge No.2), hopefully corporates will have now spent time with their workforce on change, as lets face it, it happens every minute, day, month even though we are in our routines on a daily basis (lets assume they have, otherwise we have challenge No.3). NOTHING, let me repeat NOTHING stays the same! There is also a challenge with transformation that there is an expectation that the goal/objectives are achieved in totality of the strategy and funding within a set timeframe, thus an element of aiming for perfection (challenge No.4) as there is an evolution process within those parameters. Furthermore IF you WAIT for Perfection, youll be here a lifetime! So aiming for a fit for purpose, evolutionary approach is probably more realistic, but has anyone experience an acceptance of this approach (challenge No.5)? Lets face it, sometime down the transformational path we need to tangibly report on the outcomes of the different steps for change, and in my experience some of them are not realised in totality within the timeframe forecasted, hence, why Government agencies have such a hard time of transformation because of the so many parties they are accountable to reporting such change, one being the public whom pay for these services (challenge No.6). So many challenges in business to justify change and transformation and for me Paretos Law dominates here to manage expectations realistically and to deem what is stable, isnt it just a period of time where the majority adopt the current status? But everything is STILL moving isnt it, still changing, still evolving yes? and the last challenge for me is having companies and their workforce understand and acknowledge this so they keep moving with the times rather than transform as a BIG leap/jump that really acknowledges they are catching up on history (which is usually what big transformations are about) rather than having a keep transforming model/mode/culture, which I guess aligns nicely to the Triple Loop Learning Model (of which I will soon have an update/blog). But Hey - this is only my perception ;-)
