Folks, I believe a key to rebuilding our city is providing excellent options for educating our children. Thats why Im inviting you to St. Clare of Montefalco Catholic Schools Open House THIS SUNDAY (1/26) from 2 to 4 p.m. Please take a few minutes to watch the attached video so you can meet our extraordinary students and staff! If you dont mind reading some more, here are a few of my thoughts about this exemplary school: If you live in Detroit -- or anywhere in SE Michigan -- and care about your children, excellence in education, diversity, opportunity, extra circulars and athletics, St. Clare is the place for you. Our mission is Creating Leaders in Life Since 1927, but its more than just a motto. Recent St. Clare grads were valedictorian at Cass Tech, U-D Jesuit and University Liggett. St. Clare grads routinely score lucrative private high school scholarships. This year alone, St. Clare alums have starring roles in the U-D Jesuit production of Shrek the Musical, with alum Patrick Roache starring as Shrek! (And like the Ogre, my man Patrick has layers -- he scored a 34 on his ACT exam. Take that, Lord Farquaad!) I consider St. Clare the cool school for right-on Detroiters. Yes, were in Grosse Pointe, but were on Mack -- literally just across the street from Detroits beautiful East English Village and Morningside neighborhoods. Most of our students are proud Detroiters. Yes, were a parochial school, but we welcome ALL faiths (even no faith at all). Were proud of our Catholic faith, but were not about indoctrination, were about VALUES. Some hardcore Detroiters may not want to consider St. Clare because its outside the city limits. But, and it pains me to say this as the son of a Detroit cop, one advantage of having the school in GPP is that when you call the cops, you know theyll get there fast. And, it saddens me to say this, thats more important than ever these days. (St. Clare students also get GPP library privileges.) But dont take my word for any of this.
