Folks, I have said this before, but can we please go easy on the owners who give their dogs up to a shelter? One of my dogs was given up because his owner died and he had no surviving relatives. I have volunteered with and known of women who have been forced to give up their dog because they are escaping domestic abuse and hiding in womens shelters with their children. Those domestic abuse shelters cant take dogs...and while it is a heart break for that woman and her children, its the right decision in order to escape abuse and violence. While there are cruel and irresponsible people out there who give up their dogs out of convenience there are also those who have no choice and shed a thousand tears over it, viewing it as a sacrifice. Many of us have privileged lives but for all of us, it can change overnight and none of us can be certain it wont.
