Folks, I love George Straight and his music, but he isnt the king of country! Its time for a history lesson! The King of Country Music is and always will be, Roy Acuff. A man so famous, that when the Japanese charged Okinawa, they chanted: To hell with Roosevelt, to hell with Babe Ruth, and to hell with Roy Acuff! Not only was he a mega country superstar, he and his partner Fred Rose started the first major publishing company here in town which was a major foundational building block for what we know as the music business here in Nashville. To all of you young singers and songwriters: the desire you have to be here is a direct credit to Roy Acuff. He helped build the very thing you seek! I got so tired of hearing folks say, Whos Roy Acuff?, that I decided to post this wonderful clip of Keith Bilbrey and Roy. You will even see my friend June Stearns in a clip, playing behind Roy.
