Folks from the Kansas Historical Society have been in Chapman lately verifying the Butterfield Overland Despatch route thru Chapman , looking at ruts and swale, etc. The Butterfield stage traveled nearly exactly the established Smoky Hill Trail route out to Denver. To finally link up the part of the trail with other known evidences of the Smoky Hill Trail crossing Kansas to Denver will be great! The Smoky Hill Trail Association has been working for years to get official markers at spots along the way. Hopefully Chapman will soon officially be one of those places - 160 plus years later!
