Folks, it is called Pascha not Easter I see many people greeting others (including greeting me) with the latter instead of the former, but the former is more appropriate, pious, and correct whereas the latter is secular and has its roots in paganism. When I think of the word Easter, automatically the Easter Bunny and chocolates pop up as images in my head. The word Easter comes from Ishtar the Canaanite pagan fertility god, hence the rabbits which among other things, as rodents, are fertile animals. Easter is a secular term which diminishes the Passion of the Christ and makes no reference to the Resurrection. Pascha, on the other hand, is closely associated with the Biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew: Πάσχει/Paschei in Greek means to suffer hence the Passion, whereas פֶּסַח/Pesach in Hebrew, like the Arabic فصح explicitly and directly points to the Paschal Lamb in the Old Testament, which resulted in the Passover of the angel of death in Egypt (I will see the blood - of the lamb - and pass over it). Pascha, pronounced pas-ka, is more appropriate for Christians to address each other during this time of the year. Blessed Pascha is a more fit greeting than Happy Easter. Our faith becomes more meaningful when we use the correct terminology, and more important when we understand what we say.
