Folks the state wants to spend $80 to $100 million dollars in some county to build a facility that would employ 300 to 500 people at jobs starting at C109 @ about 15.00per hour advancing to C112 @ about $20.00 per hour in a years time. Then spend $15 to $20 million in that county to operate that facility. Yes it would be a state prison with some maximum security prisoners. But there would. be 800 to 1000 prisoners at maximum. capacity. Those people would have family to visit and require restaurants, motels, fuel and supplies. Probably spend more than we gain in tourism dollars now. Hospital would get to treat prisoners, professors would be needed to teach classes, and trained law enforcement personnel would move here with families which would use our scbools. Jackson. County has benefited greatly from the units down there. 5 of our 9 JPs voted No to even applying for this opportunity. Lawrence. County shot itself in the butt once again.
