Folks, this country is perilously close to a race war, directed undeservedly at the nations POLICE. BOTH sides have valid points that community policing needs to improve and more care needs to be taken in circumstances that are ambiguous on BOTH sides. BUT, I blame the MEDIA for failing to discuss, show, or report on ALL THE INCREDIBLE THINGS POLICE OFFICERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY DO ON A DAILY BASIS!. We dont get 24/7 when an officer talks a suicidal citizen off a bridge; We dont see the successfully handled domestic violence calls that are defused in good neighborhoods and bad on a daily basis; We dont see the authoritative restraint they show during traffic stops, dealing with belligerent drunks and drug-addled hookers. We dont see the strong relationships officers build with local business owners and the sense of community they foster with daily good deeds. And the list goes on. WHY? Because the 24/7 media cycle thrives on mirth, mayhem and murder: good deeds dont sell! Violent traffic stops and ceaseless protests that are right or wrong drive ratings and ratings are what advertisers pay millions of dollars for. Think Im wrong? The next time you watch the news, you will find the happy, warm and fuzzy special interest story tucked at the very end of the broadcast. Good deeds are an after-thought. The next time you see a police officer, soldier or other first responders, SHOW SOME RESPECT AND THANK THEM FOR WHAT THEY DO.
