Folks, this year Im having a crack at my own Australian music / Australia Day count down. This is by no means the seven best Australian songs ever written. They just happen to be bands, songs and in some cases particular lyrics that I like. I rekon Ive got a reasonable mix of songs however understandably the 80s get a fair share of the air time. Anyway sit back and enjoy some good Aussie tunes as we get ready to mark our national day. Song #7: Kosciusko, Midnight Oil, 1984, Album: Red Sail in the Sunset I was driving along the other day listening to ABC local radio here in Adelaide and I heard that Triple J is turning 40 years old. Im not going to sit here and beat the drum, however thats a pretty good effort for a station that has nurtured / unearthed alot of good Australian music talent, such as Silverchair, Missy Higgins and Grinspoon. Midnight Oil was a Lay Down Misere in any Australian music count down that Im in charge of. When I heard the Js birthday was happening, it reminded me of a fantastic gig that the Oils performed on Sydneys Goat Island in January 1985 to celebrate JJJ 10th birthday.
