Follow Up Work. After getting a view of the lost ruined city of Herbes canyon in the ESA flyby video, I decided to do some follow up by checking to see if the area had been imaged by any of the other orbiters. A check of Google Mars showed that only the Mars Global Surveyor had gotten photos of the city itself. That brought back some memory’s from days gone by. See, long ago we only had one Mars satellite to give us photos of the surface. Its camera was run with a tyrannical iron fist by Michael Mad Man. This was a fellow who hated anomaly hunters with a burning passion. The merest hint of an anomaly photo request was enough to send him into a raging fit. He is still with us, and as now CEO, is still in charge of the cameras on newer missions. Anyway, the first photos in today’s hunt are from that lower resolution camera. Fortunately the newer HiRISE camera did take a look at an area a bit out from the ruined city, and as it turns out some outstanding debris fields were discovered. The reason HiRISE has not taken a photo of the city? I detect a nefarious hand at work still to this day
