Follow up to my follow up: You might think youre writing stuff so weird or unique or amazing that the masses simply arent ready for it. Bullshit. Im a guy who writes about space squids, cosmic moon monsters, and robot detective fighting mutants in the mean streets of a pulp science fiction city. I make a living doing this. You are not a special snowflake with a singular genius. You do not write anything weirder than someone who is making a living doing this right now. That doesnt mean you should sit smugly content with your writing. You should always strive to be a better writer. (You should always strive to be better. Period.) If you hide away from the world because youre too awesome for it or because its not ready for you, youre the one who is holding yourself back. Not a few editors who rejected you. Not a world that doesnt get you. Its you. Stop standing in your way, put your ego aside, and push on.
