Follow up to yesterdays post about what parents should say before and after a game.. We should all support our children ,be proud of their effort and love them no matter what. Now here is the part that a lot have a problem with.. As our kids get older and are attempting to play at a higher level we need to also be honest with them without discouraging them or breaking their spirit. The old cliche that you can be anything you want to be is really nice in theory.. But only true within reason.. I wanted to play wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys when I was a kid .. Wasnt gonna happen.... 511 138lbs wasnt going to get it.. Its just reality.. Not that I wasnt a good athlete because I was..but there are different levels of athleticism.. I am pretty sure I wasnt on the same level as a Drew Pearson or Michael Irvin( sarcasm) of course I wasnt.. But I found a place where my size wasnt a factor in a different arena.. Very few softball players that play Little League, Travel Ball or high school softball are college players and an even fewer number of these players are NCAA Division 1 athletes.. And an even smaller number will ever play in a program that will be featured on ESPN at the WCWS.. Coaches and parents should work together where the athletes ability is concerned..parents need to remember that the coach isnt a bad person if they tell your child that they dont fit at a certain position or level of play , Its just reality.. And you should still support them, be proud of them and love them..
