Following A. W. Tozers recommendation I have made a hymnal part of my time with the Lord. As I read through verses of some of the old hymns this morning I was struck with the reality that so many of our modern worship songs focus on what God does for me (how much He loves me - how secure I am in Him - I am OK regardless) - in comparison with the old hymns that simply focus on who God is. Modern preaching often follows the change in focus as church is more and more about what I need and less and less about who God is. That explains a lot of why so many who call themselves Christians feel free to live a lifestyle that screams otherwise.
