Following club member Sarah Astins international cross country - TopicsExpress

Following club member Sarah Astins international cross country debut for England last weekend, its an opportune time to remember that she has been winning titles for Manx Harriers for nearly a decade now. Her first big success was winning the Lancashire Cross Country title in January 2006 in her first year in the U13 Girls age group. She had a race long battle with Melanie Hyder who is a year older - the two of them were way clear of the rest of the field. Sarah showed excellent finishing speed to pull clear in the closing stages and take the first of six Lancashire cross country titles over the next seven years. She went home that day with two gold medals, as she was also part of the U13 Girls team champions along with Manx Harriers teammates Lauren Whelan, Emily Ashe and Caitriona Cox. Good memories! Sarahs early cross country successes were built on experience gained in the IOM Cross Country league, and this will hopefully be an inspiration to the many talented young athletes we have on the island now.
