Following on from last month’s fraud themed Neighbourhood Watch week I have come across a new (at least to me) method of scam that you should be aware of – COURIER FRAUD Courier Fraud is where victims (generally the elderly and vulnerable) are talked into disclosing bank account numbers, passwords and security clearance details over the phone. The scammer will claim to be from their bank or other card provider. Another scammer will then attend the home address of the victim, by arrangement, acting as a ‘courier’ and will collect or exchange the victims bank card for a blank / scam card. Ostensibly this is a ‘service’ offered by the bank. Needless to say the card and courier are never seen again and the card is then used to withdraw funds from the victims account. -----Lancashire Police------
