Following recent rains, The Woodlands Township urges residents to check their property for standing water and to empty containers to prevent mosquitoes. Drain after rain is an easy way for homeowners to reduce mosquitoes. Check your landscape and empty or remove anything holding even a small amount of water. Mosquitoes can lay eggs in plant saucers, bird baths, pet bowls, toys, buckets and other containers. Fill tree holes with sand and clear clogged rain gutters. If water stands in meter boxes, French drains or ditches, treat with Mosquito Dunks®, a biological larvacide available at home and garden centers. Protect yourself and family from mosquito bites when out of doors. Wear long, loose, light-colored clothing. Use repellent. Apply according to label directions. To learn how to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne disease around your home, visit thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/mosquitoinfo or call The Woodlands Township, Environmental Services Department, at 281-210-3800.
