Following text received in an email today 16.01.2015 from Leadnow.org quote: Dear Gerry, When we asked you to chip in and raise $100,000 for the Vote Together campaign, we were nervous. That’s a lot of money, and it wasn’t a lot of time. So here’s the good news: together we did it! Thanks to you, the Leadnow community is ready to hit the ground running this year - ready to do everything we can to stop another Harper majority and move Canada forward. Momentum keeps building across the country. People have already stepped up to form over a dozen teams in swing ridings and, you’re getting noticed. Check out this amazing clip from Tuesday’s broadcast of This Hour Has 22 Minutes to see how a Leadnow team is taking on a senior member of Harper’s team in PEI In addition to all the support and encouragement, we also received some really smart questions about the Vote Together campaign. Here are two of the biggest questions we get asked: • What sets this campaign apart from the campaigns the poliwhiltical parties will run? and; • Is Leadnow going to support a political party during the election? Heres the thing -- were doing something the political parties wont do (yet). Over the last few years, tens of thousands of people have joined our campaigns calling on the NDP, Liberals, and Greens to cooperate to defeat the Conservatives and pass electoral reform. So far, while the Greens have indicated a willingness to cooperate before the election, both the NDP and the Liberals have committed to going it alone for the election. So, with a potential spring election around the corner, the Vote Together campaign is helping people take matters into their own hands. By encouraging voters to cooperate in ridings where Conservatives won with less than 50% of the vote, we can avoid a repeat of the vote splitting that gave Stephen Harper his “strong, stable Conservative majority” in 2011. This is about more than one election. Together, we’re building the post-partisan movement that will be necessary after the election to get the parties to work together and move Canada forward with urgent action for a strong democracy, fair economy and clean environment. That takes us to the second question - which party the Leadnow community would support in the election. Well, the short answer is: we’re not supporting any political party. We are often accused of being a front for the NDP, the Liberals, or the Greens. The truth: we know that this community needs to be an independent voice, and we think it’s a good sign that there are people from every party who seem to think we’re working for the other teams. Federal election campaigns come down to local races with local candidates. The Vote Together campaign will help people focus support behind candidates who are electable (have a shot at defeating the local Conservatives) and acceptable (broadly on side with the Leadnow communitys key issues). In some ridings it will be an NDP candidate, in others, it will be a Liberal, and in a few others, the Green or independent candidates will be endorsed by our community. We know it wont be perfect, but if we work together we can hold the Harper Conservatives accountable at the ballot box and lay the groundwork for real progress on the issues that matter -- thats why were doing this. Remember that no matter what you’re doing - donating, volunteering, sending a message - you are the heart of Leadnow campaigns. Your trust is the foundation for everything.
