Following the appearance of and wide circulation of the video of the traffic policeman soliciting bribes in Lagos, he was summarily tried and dismissed. Good! But the Police cannot feign ignorance of the magnitude of fraud perpetrated by its personnel. More proactive steps needs be setup by the Police to monitor compliance to ethical standards by its officers as they discharge their duties. Waiting for such videos before acting is tantamount to hypocrisy. The Police must rid itself of those who taint its image so as to be better positioned, with the requisite moral gumption needed to take on infractions of the law.
