Following the conclusion of the National U15 events yesterday, today saw the start of the National Cadet (U17) Championships - with Queensland winning two medals, including our first individual medal. In the women’s U17 sabre, foil specialist Alicia Kwag won a silver medal – this result deserves particular recognition because on Saturday, Alicia was competing in Korea as a member of the Australian Women’s Foil team in the Asian Senior Championships. She then flew back to Australia, came straight to Marrickville on Sunday to participate in the U15 Foil and Sabre teams, then competed again today to win silver in U17 sabre. In the team events, Qld won a bronze medal in the U17 Women’s sabre after battling Victoria in the semi-finals, to add to our tally of women’s team medals (4 events, 4 medals….keep it up Qld women!). Another busy day tomorrow – full details of schedules and results can be found on the Australian Fencing Federation webpages.
