Following the news yesterday that the CIA finally admitted to overthrowing the government of Iran in 1953, Foreign Policy has put together a list of the 6 other countries the US has overthrown: Chile (1973), Congo (1963), Guatemala (1954), Dominican Republic (1961), Brazil (1964), and South Vietnam (1963) Um, you guys missed a couple… Here’s a quick list I put together of other countries whose governments were overthrown through the help, either providing direct material support or orchestrating, of the CIA and Washington (I’m sure I’m missing several others as well): Iraq (1963), Iraq (2003), Turkey (1980), Ecuador (1963), Indonesia (1965), Greece (1965), Cuba (1959), British Guiana (1954), Ghana (1966), Laos (1960), Angola (1980s), Philippines (1986), Syria (1949), Panama (1989), Grenada (1983), Nicaragua (1980s), Haiti (1991), Haiti again (2004), Afghanistan (2001), and, oh yeah, Libya (2011) foreignpolicy/articles/2013/08/19/map_7_confirmed_cia_backed_coups
