Following the savage attack on a French satirical newspaper the other day, Im impressed with the following: They are doing right what Americans did wrong. After 9/11, most Americans were crippled with fear and drastically changed their behavior following widespread support of policies that forced that change—pat-downs at the airport, reporting suspicious activity we see, sending more of our loved ones to suffer and die in foreign lands, and opening up our digital lives to the eyes of federal peeping toms. Charlie Hebdo, the group of French cartoonists attacked, is NOT changing their behavior. Despite several people killed, they are still going to keep publishing. They are not cowering to the demands of terrorists. They are doing it right. Feardom indeed. Despite the irreverent and offensive nature of some of their work, we Americans have a lot to learn from this brave band of Frenchmen.
