Folokori EV Donates Food to Quarantined Homes at Mayaya in Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom By Hassan Bruz Northern Bureau Chief It is an open secret that Kaffu Bullom is now one of the Chiefdoms that have become Ebola Hotspot in the Northern District of Port Loko. This Chiefdom which is often referred to as the National Air Gateway to and Sierra Leone, has not only lost a huge number of useful lives to Ebola, but it is even clearer than ever before that the Ebola virus is poised to wreck more havoc in this cosmopolitan Chiefdom. Figures sourced out from the Command and Control Centre in the District Headquarter town of Port Loko portrays that Kaffu Bullom had lost over 30 People to Ebola and has as well, registered a total of 30 Ebola confirmed cases in the past week alone. This is the key reason why more attention is currently been focused there .In the past few days, more and more, Contact Tracers, surveillance and social mobilisation Teams have been deployed in the various sections of the Chiefdom to ensure that the situation is put under proper control. UNICEF, UNFPA, WFP, the District Taskforce, and the District Coordinator of Ebola Response Centre- Hon. Raymond Kabia have all rushed to this Chiefdom in a bid to forge out a workable solution. The Forikolo EV is one of the None Government Organisations that have surfaced in there and has made its presence quite relevant on the ground. Abu Mansaray is the Country Dierctor of Forikolo and was physically present at Mayaya –one of the badly hit sections in Kaffu Bullom. I was there myself and used the opportunity to find out some basic facts about this Organisation. He told me in an interview that Forikolo EV was established in 2003 with support from a German based Organisation also known as Forikolo EV which now serves as a parent body to his Organisation. The Country Director said, they are predominantly operating in Lokomasama, Burreh Kasseh Maconteh and Kaffu Bullom Chiefdoms in the Port Loko District. He said they intervene in the spheres of Education, Agriculture and Health. He said the Organisation has since constructed a total of 10 Schools, provided funds for small scale farming in terms of vegetable gardening and animal husbandry adding that he has also donated a consignment of medicine to Health Post estimated at 23 Million Leones in these operational areas. He said his directorate was busy installing Solar Panels in all the aforementioned Schools when the Ebola outbreak occurred in the country which eventually brought their operations to a standstill. Abu Mansaray said his Organisation also saw the need to join in the fight against Ebola following the clarion call of President Koroma for all well meaning Sierra Leoneans to join without delay. He said his Organisation has since played an active role in mobile sensitization. He spoke of the consignment of food he used to provide to quarantined homes in the Port Loko District. At Mayaya in the Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, the Country Director donated a consignment of food to the quarantined homes in the village. He said it was a mere continuation of the assistance Forikolo EV has been rendering to the deserving categories of people in the country. He however used the opportunity to inform the gathering about the negative impact the Ebola virus has caused to this Nation and how every other thing is at the risk of being dragged to a standstill if people are not serious enough to have the virus eradicated. He therefore urged for a concerted effort, adding that natives need to remain sincere in the fight by making sure that they refrain from washing dead bodies and secret burials. You can now have a look at how it went out there at Mayaya- one of the Ebola ravaged communities in Kaffu Bullom........ .
