Food Dehydrator...first use done...two thinly sliced apples did make apple chips. In the future for my own use I will slice them thicker, about 3/16 and have more substantial slices but they were good. I am, medium at 130 F, heating nickel sized Nathans hot dog slices to be refrigerated for the girls who LOVE them as treats when microwaved. Sweet potatoes are almost universally recommended for both humans and dog treats as good with sugar for taste and for dogs with Vitamins as well in them and accepted well for the dogs. You can either blanch the sweet potatoes or not first but another approach is to bake them at 350 for 45 minutes, cool them, skin them then cut them into 1/4 thick strips and dehydrate. Yet another interesting recipe which I will try tomorrow is a recipe that makes a chicken and sweet potato snack for the dogs. You take a pound of chicken and cube it, two cups of cubed, peeled sweet potatoes and some water and cook the chicken in water with the cubes on a skillet until white then boil the water off, cool and stuck it all into a food processor or strong blender. Then you take that mix with wet hands and form little balls which you shape into rectanges of the size and thickness suited to your dog then put those in the dehydrator at medium 130-140 F heat for six hours and when done you have a dry treat that the dogs reportedly love. Makes about 60 of these cubes as treats. Stores in fridge for three months though Im sure you could vacuum bag and freeze for longer periods. It can do beef, chicken jerky but I have not even looked at that as for my own use I want fruit and veggie dehydrated to use as snacks that are more healthful. At least Ive started. There are many, many options and ways to do each it seems. The unit I have is called a Waring Pro DHR30
