Food For Thought: (A quick sermonette) One of the most popular bible scriptures is also the most misquoted scriptures in the bible. Matthew 7:1 is speaking on how to judge but most people wrongly assume its saying dont judge. It states, 1 Do not judge others, & you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. 3 “& why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. In other words, we are to judge but we must judge righteously. In other words, I cant tell a crackhead to stop smoking crack, if Im still smoking crack. Get fixed before trying to fix someone whos broken as you are. Furthermore, it is impossible not to judge. Life is based on judging. If youre driving & you come to a traffic light & its going from green to yellow, you must make a judgement as to the amount of pressure to put on the brake to stop or on the gas pedal to go faster, in order to get through the light before it turns red. So, judging in the bible is permitted & remember, when you quote that scripture & tell people not to judge, that statement is a judgement in itself. Shalom!
