Food For Thought: #ChangeYourCircleChangeYourLife #ChangeYourMindChangeYourLife (BRACE YOURSELF its a long but a good one lol) Approximately 10 years ago, I had the pleasure and honor of working for Will Smith Unfortunately it wasnt on a show or film but nonetheless, the experience and memory fed my spirit, soul, mind & life and eventually changed my life..... But not immediately. LoL... 10 years ago, I wasnt at a space or place in my life to receive his words and apply them properly but when I did, I saw a HUGE change in my career and personal life. There was one particular event, the last event I helped coordinate & hostessed for him & Jada Pinkett Smith to be exact. It was an event and concert he had for Walmart or something like that. Long story short, at the end of the night, I was sitting at a table eating and he came over and thanked me for my hard work and asked how long I had been doing PR & hosting. We chatted about it and he asked what my ultimate goals were and I told him, Be the female version of him & Tom Hanks lol. He laughed and asked what I was doing in my life to get there. I told him all the things I attempted, did and either accomplished or failed. He then asked me, Who are your closest friends or who are the 5 people you seek advice from and what do they do? I listed the names and occupations of these people and he smiled, got up, hugged me and thanked me for all my hard work on all the things I helped with. He went to walk away and after a few steps he turned back around and said to me, Surround Yourself With Your Future Self Denyce. Watch your world change and when you win that Oscar, dont forget about us little people. He winked at me and smiled that gorgeous smile LoL and walked away. At 26 years old, I had no idea what he meant. I thought he was being sarcastic and mocking me at first LoL.... It wasnt until 3 years ago when my brother passed I realized and understood what he meant. Want to be positive and a happy person? Surround yourself with positive and happy people, but be sure NOT to be an energy vampire and bring them down. Let them inspire and uplift you with their way of life and example. Want to be successful and wealthier? Stop hanging with broke lazy people who dont want better for themselves and who is ALWAYS borrowing & taking from you. Want to be in a healthy relationship? Stop hanging with bitter angry single folks with bad advice. Surround yourself with like minds. Want to be an actress, director, casting director etc? Surround yourself with successful actors, directors and etc in that field... not rappers, constructions workers and strippers lol.... Want to be a professional athlete, stop hanging with the homies who play NBA Live and Madden all day... lol, hang with those folks who work out, train and have the same ambition. The examples goes on and on, but seriously.... Its really simple and easier done than said. The icing on the cake with that great piece of advice he gave me. I mean, after that day, I was never called again to host anything for him or Jada lol and I was bummed and thought I did something wong... until about 4 months later, I was called into audition for his movie HITCH (Paula Patton got the role) LoL, went in for HANCOCK right after (the role was written out later), then went in for Seven Pounds (the lovely Robinne Lee blessed us with that role)... I felt discouraged as if I sucked or something and then I ran into him and he said to me randomly without me bringing it up, You have the blessing and the curse, I looked at him baffled and he laughed, he said Your youth. You dont look old enough to play my love interest and not quite young enough to play my child. But one day were going to find the perfect role for you. Just be patient, youre good. and he winked and walked away. I thought to myself WOW! He was the one who brought me in? Thats why he didnt hire me anymore, he wanted me to focus on what I really wanted. When I thought one door closed and was sad about it, the opportunity and another door was already waiting for me and I didnt even know it. When I was about to give up and felt I was doing something wrong, encouragement stepped in when I least expected it. I may not be where I want to be, Lord knows my struggles and strifes, but He also knows Im not where I used to be mentally, spiritually & professionally and I thank Him and those who encouraged and advised me along the way. I may not have understood everything then, and Im still learning and a work in progress, but I was open minded and open hearted enough to see my flaws and received the information to make the changes.... I hope this encouraged, inspired and motivated others to open their minds, spirits and souls to make changes. They are a necessary evil ;-) #HappyFriday
