Food for thought...in the light of the fact that there are five ministries given by the Lord Jesus Christ to the church (Ephesians 4:11), how many pastors in church history ignited a revival or a movement that resulted in masses of souls coming into the kingdom? This is NOT a slam or any kind of disrespect to the valuable office of the pastor. This is simply to get people thinking. Here are some names to consider - Peter, John, Paul, Philip the evangelist, Savonarola, Luther, John Wesley, George Whitfield, Jonathon Edwards, Charles Finney, Smith Wigglesworth, John Lake, Maria Woodworth Etter, Amy Semple McPherson, Lester Sumrall, Kenneth E. Hagin, Paul Yonngi Cho, TL Osborn, Reinhard Bonnke, etc. In this list, as far as I can tell, only one of them stood solely in the office of the pastor - Jonathon Edwards. Cho pastors, but he stands in other offices as well. If the church in the USA wants sweeping revival and large masses of conversion to Christ, history shows that (with exceptions) the offices of the apostle, prophet or evangelist must have a greater presence in our churches. That will require humility and maybe some adjustments from some pastors. :)
