Footage of Spoken Word with The Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word at the Art Palace - A Marketplace for Artist. Call to Artists—Stop Mass Incarceration Art Show at an opening of an art show as part of the October month of resistance against mass incarceration, police terror and the criminalization of generations. This show is in response to a national initiative launched by Cornel West and Carl Dix. On Wed., October 22nd , there will be nationwide demonstrations (in Cleveland, meet up at the Women’s Pre-Release Center at 1:30 pm). Mass incarceration in the U.S. has reached massive proportions never before seen anywhere in the world, with millions of Black and Latina/Latino youth being shipped off to prison. As Michelle Alexanders book, The New Jim Crow, powerfully documents, this is not a consequence of criminal behavior, but as a means of social control. The courageous resistance of people in Ferguson, MO, has helped to shine a spotlight on police brutality and criminalization. This movement must grow to involve millions to stop these injustices. For more information, go to the national web site at stopmassincarceration.net. Proceeds from artwork sold will benefit the local affiliate, Puncture the Silence-Stop Mass Incarceration, puncturethesilenceCLE@gmail, meetup/Grtr-Cleveland-Stop-Mass-Incarceration-Puncture-the-Silence/.
