Football: Hudspeth Wants Cajuns To Move On athleticnetwork.net/site.php?pageID=37&newsID=18119 Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, November 24, 2014 ______________________________ Reiterating what he said in the immediate aftermath of a 35-16 upset loss to Appalachian State on Saturday that snapped ULs six-game win streak, coach Mark Hudspeth vowed Monday that his Ragin Cajuns will move on. Hudspeths 7-4 Cajuns close their regular season Saturday morning at Troy, and he doesnt want ULs first loss since September to impact his club like an unexpected early season defeat to Louisiana Tech did. The Cajuns lost two more after falling to the Bulldogs – at nationally ranked Ole Miss and at Boise State – before reeling off six wins in a row to open Sun Belt Conference play. They havent (forgotten) about this, he said of Saturdays loss when asked about the mood when UL players gathered again Sunday night. But I told them Im not gonna allow this to linger on. You know, we let that Tech game linger on earlier in the year, and were not (going to this time) In hindsight, and after watching game tape, Hudspeth seemed to feel Monday that no sacks and few big plays cost the Cajuns dearly against the Mountaineers. I give App. State credit, he said of a 6-5 Appalachian State team that has now won five in a row. They did a great job of seven- and eight-man protection. Sometimes they sent two guys out on routes, and double-teamed defensive lineman (Justin Hamilton) and (Christian) Ringo, and was able to get the ball off. The Cajun offense, meanwhile, had just two plays go for more than 15 yards Saturday – an 18-yard Alonzo Harris run and a 17-yard pass from Terrance Broadway to James Butler. To put it in perspective, Hudspeth said, weve been averaging about nine a game. So, that was a big drop-off there. With a chance still to win eight of their last nine if they are victorious at Troy and win an anticipated bowl game too, Hudspeth wants all heads up this week. He said one of his teams core values – No. 5, actually – is to project positive energy. Theres gonna be times in life when things hit em, Hudspeth said, and if they mope around the next day, that (doesnt) make things any better. I think they know that was one we felt like we had. Even in the third quarter, it was one of those games we really felt like we were fixin to pull out … and we didnt make plays when we had to in the fourth quarter. But were pressing on, added Hudspeth, whose Cajuns trailed just 14-13 at halftime Saturday. Were not gonna sit around and sulk about this one. _____________________ UL at Troy: Game: 11:30 a.m., Saturday, at Troy, Ala. Records: UL 7-4, 6-1; Troy 3-8, 3-4. TV: None. Online: ESPN3.
