For Ann Heinrichs, walking 30 kilometres a day may be gruelling, but her thoughts are on events that happened in history where we drove, as settlers, people off their land — the disappearance of buffalo, the disappearance of their livelihood. Heinrichs, who has two adopted aboriginal daughters, says the girls arent with their parents because of that whole breakdown of families that happened through residential schools and the broader systems that worked against indigenous people in Canada.
