For August 2nd, we will continue discussing Dogens fascicle Hokke Ten Hokke, On the Flowering of the Dharma Sets the Dharmas Flowering in Motion beginning with page 175. It is helpful to reread this fascicle prior to each time we discuss it. We are looking at Dogens use and interpretation of The Lotus Sutra, and in this fascicle he focuses primarily on chapter 16 of The Lotus Sutra, and less frequently on chapter 2, skillful means. Print and/or read pages 198 to 213 in the Shasta Abbey PDF file of SHOBOGENZO available on our homepage. Please note that the pages you will print do not correspond to the actual numbered pages in the document/text. This is because the computer counts the introductory pages in the text and renumbers them for printing, although the fascicles themselves begin on page 1.
