For Autism Awareness Month this year, Id like to strongly encourage you all to discuss bullying with your school-age children. Let them know that its always ok to ask questions or show concern. Its always ok to try and make friends or lend a helping hand and its even ok to keep a distance if they feel the need. However, Id really like you to make it crystal clear that under NO circumstances whatsoever is it ok to make fun of, pick-on or laugh at another child due to a disability of any kind. Please also be aware that they call good mothers of special needs children Polar Bears for a reason. Theres nothing I wont do to protect mine!! And just for the record...believe me when I say that Im not above bribing another child to whip up on yours for picking on mine! Ive got lots of wonderful nieces & nephews and even a little sister in 2nd grade who thinks her greatest purpose in life is to protect my Shelby! :)
