For Bradford Stephens. Im too lazy to tag five other people. Note these games arent (all) the best; theyre what I played. Ten§ games which will always stay with me. (§ I count how I like.) * The Legend of Zelda - first game I bought with my own money, first console, was pre-teen and killed incredible time playing it, etc.. * Kid Icarus - like Legend of Zelda, the musical score rubs off on your soul before you can finish it. * Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime - the gameplay and critters of the first three stay with you, but the music from Metroid Prime is incredible. Phendranas Edge and a water section (the reactor at the bottom of the wrecked ship?) are particularly haunting. * Moria (a version of Nethack for the PC), and later a more colorful version called Evets * Tradewars 2002 - the entire point of BBSes, and thus programming and computer networking, to me at that time. * Various Mechwarrior games - always so close to giving you everything they promised. * Wolfenstein 3D - in the dark, with a friend watching to yell either in fright the same time you do or to be a jerk slightly before you. * Wing Commander - just the music. A few songs I cant place have similar instruments and melodies, and keep calling this time back to me. * Donkey Kong World, DKW2, and Oddworld: Munchs Oddysee - good times were had playing these games, nuff said. * Warcraft 2 (and its spiritual predecessor, Dune 2) * Starcraft and Starcraft 2 - best co-op RTS LAN gaming there ever was * Doom, Doom2, Half-life, Quake 2, Half-life 2 - cutting-edge FPS with story. * Thief: Deadly Shadows - the shapes, sounds, and backgrounds made the city seem much larger and more real than it was. Walking around West Queen Annes hills at night reminded me of it.
