For Chakra music today the focus is the Green Ray, which is focused in the Third-Eye Chakra. This Chakra corresponds closest to the piano sounds, but the piece I bring you today is a beautiful example of using many instruments in a piece, but all to support a singular momentum of energy through the one piano instrument. Its a good chance to give some understanding of musical terms, and how they can be applied here. In music there are three basic things that distinguish a note on an instrument: the pitch, the loudness, and the duration. Timbre is the word that describes a sound in music that differentiates from other sounds which carry the same pitch and loudness. For example if a cello and a violin both play the middle C, at the same volume and duration, they will sound different -- have a different timbre to their sound. Sigur Rós is an Icelandic band, described as post-rock. Post-rock is a term that refers to musicians or bands that use instruments typical in making rock music, but for music that is not rock. I can say that all the music from Sigur Rós is not pure, but this song is absolutely spectacular. The music is so soft, melodic, and the way it repeats a specific theme with the piano over and over, yet is supported by all these other instruments. The music has an organ, an acoustic guitar, two violins, a cello, and a xylophone, and all come in at different times, and you can hear them in behind the piano constantly pouring this beautiful rhythmic energy forth, over and over. They grow bigger and stronger, and then as the end comes you here them all dropping off one at a time, almost as if their cycle was up, and leaving the piano to finish on its own. You really have to use headphones to see if you can pick out all the instruments, because it makes so much of a difference when you can hear the full depth of the piece. With so much Love
