For Day 24 of the 4th round of The New Opera Challenge, were asked - TopicsExpress

For Day 24 of the 4th round of The New Opera Challenge, were asked for an aria sung by a character who appears in at least two operas not telling the same story. Im not sure this is what the creator of the challenge wanted, but Ive selected Rosina, later known to us as Countess Almaviva. She appears in Il barbiere di Siviglia, which tells the story of Count Almavivas courtship of Rosina. Then she appears in Le nozze di Figaro, in which Rosina - now Countess Almaviva - conspires with her maid, Susanna, to teach her husband lessons about trust and faithfulness. She will also appear in Milhauds opera based on the third play of Beaumarchais trilogy, La mere coupable, about which I know very little. And finally, she also appears in Coriglianos The Ghosts of Versailles, of which I dont even know the plot, but I know the characters from the Beaumarchais plays appear alongside historic figures from 18th century France, so I assume that opera tells even a different story. Heres Kristina Laki singing Rosinas first solo (a cavatina), Giusto ciel! che conoscete from Paisiellos setting of Il barbiere di Siviglia. https://youtube/watch?v=oTuCvUfC5-M
