For Helen Baneham:The Da on his motorbike with our Anne. He was heading home on his bike one lunchtime and crashed into a car in Queens Street and ended up in the Mater. The Ma was putting her coat on to go in to see him and told my older brother who was ten to look after me, I was four years old at the time. Well him and his pals had planned to go rob an orchard up near the Deaf and Dumb. So I was dragging along behind them and when they went to cross over the Navan Road I was last to run across. Ah now me little legs couldnt run too fast and I got the smack of a van, South of Ireland Asphalt Company to be correct. I ended up with a broken leg, fractured collar bone, broken ribs, fractured skull and loads of bruises. When the Ma came home from the Mater she was told not to take her coat off as Martin was in Temple Street Hospital. Now they didnt fix my leg right the first time so they had to break it again and start all over...Is it any wonder I turned out the way I am?...
