For Immediate Release LTGI announces Marco Gonzalez as Artistic Director UT Radio/TV/Film Grad to Succeed Departing Co-Founder Joe Arciniega Laredo Theater Guild International (LTGI), fresh from a successful opening of their 6th Season with the innovative comedy hit “The 39 Steps” at the Laredo Center for the Arts, has announced that the director of that production and LTGI Board member, Marco Gonzalez, is to succeed Joe Arciniega as Artistic Director. Arciniega, who is also co-founder of LTGI, previously announced his retirement from theater at the end of this year to spend time with family, write, and pursue other philanthropic interests, specifically in the area of Alzheimer’s. Marco Gonzalez, an Audio/Video Production teacher at J.W. Nixon High School is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio, Television and Film, during which he interned at The Weinstein Company in Los Angeles. He made his directorial debut in 2011 with Imago Theatre’s “By the Bog of Cats,” and in addition to directing LTGI’s “The 39 Steps,” directed LTGI’s Class on Stage presentation of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” in 2013. Gonzalez also co-directed the historic J.W. Nixon UIL production of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” advancing to State competition, the first time for a Laredo High school in 50 years. Gonzalez is also an actor, having appeared in principal roles in LITE Production’s “Side Man,” LLT’s “Measure for Pleasure,” and LTGI’s “Bodas de Sangre/Blood Wedding,” and “The Crucible.” Upon his confirmation Gonzalez replied, “I am honored to take the reins and lead this organization that demonstrates passionate commitment to excellence in theatre arts into its next chapter.” “From my very first observations of Marco beginning several years ago,” commented Arciniega, “I knew that he was an extraordinary talent with artistic vision of his very own, a singular mindset, and the ability to execute creatively in multiple ways, often at the same time. Marco is the right person at the right time. He isnt filling my shoes at all, because he doesnt need to; he has big shoes of his very own.” LTGI Board of Directors President Henry Mejia said that Gonzalez begins his assignment immediately with his first show being LTGI’s next Class on Stage production in March 2015, Rudolfo Anaya’s “Bless Me Ultima,” working side by side with Director Vernon Carroll. Furthermore, said Mejia, “While Marco cuts his teeth on this very important position for LTGI, Joe Arciniega will serve as his advisor.” Laredo Theater Guild International (LTGI) is a 501c3 nonprofit community based theater organization presenting a season of quality theatrical productions at Texas A&M International University, Laredo Community College, and the Laredo Center for the Arts, further enriching the community by engaging its members of all ages to provide a rewarding experience for them and for Laredo theatergoers.
