For Jhonn... Please find below, a link to something Ive been working on for well over a month in Jhonns memory. Its a pdf (and, soon, Kindle) book edition of Jhonn Balances collected writings, lyrics and performed songs. It contains one photograph I have shot specifically for this book (I dont have rights to any photographs of Jhonn himself, so thought Id use a figure/background that represented him in some way on specific Jhonn themed shoots I arranged with a model earlier this month - I am a fine art mixed-media photographer). Obviously completely unofficial, I have rescued his lyrics from spambot-riddled lyric sites, re-transcribed a lot of them by myself from the original songs over long dark autumn nights here in England, took note of official lyrics and those on Coil websites (many errors found on even the official release sleeves) alongside cover versions, and respectfully curated them into a somewhat coherent order. See various notices within the book for more information about it being unofficial. Included are lyrics Ive compiled that Jhonn had written for other bands, poems and essays written by him. Theres also an appendix containing, I hope, some new information (via a little of my own research) alongside well-read words that Ive always wanted to see in a collected readable and accessible form. Besides the obvious reasons, I wanted to create a book of his lyrics to send to Threshold House as a friendly protest to get Jhonns words officially collected. As such, this is what Ill be doing. At the end of November I am getting this book privately printed in paperback form from the high quality print version file I have made, to send the only printed copy (bar my own preview copy!) to Threshold House in London as a good karma reminder that his words need to be appreciated. I shall post photographs of the printed edition here, under this post, for those who may be interested, once it has been made. As is the nature with Coil, some of Jhonns words are totally indecipherable and distorted on many occasions, thus are open to some interpretation. I have found that a combination of importing mp3 files into Adobe Audition 1.5 for cleaned-up, reversed or repetitive listening whilst under a dosage of 200mg of Tramadol helped my hearing and understanding of the words contained within the songs. Thus, I know of nowhere else other than this book that contains words for several songs here, such as Thighpaulsandras Optical Black and Coils Chalice, for instance. As Jhonn might say, be kind to my mistakes! For those Coil fans who hate the front photograph or my design of the book, the pdf is unprotected so the front cover and other (public domain) illustrations can be removed using easily-available freeware pdf splitters.
