For Maria - I usually keep my chicks in ceramic bowls when Im hand feeding because they tend to hold more heat. Because Im hoping to move these chicks under Societies, I decided to leave them in the nest that was in their parents cage. I usually have a thermometer in the brooder with them, but mine finally just died after 15 years so Im on the hunt for another that is both thermometer AND hygrometer so I can also monitor the humidity in the container. Im not a real fan of this particular setup because the heating pad just doesnt get warm enough and Im forced to use a heat lamp as well. If Im going to have to use a heat lamp in addition to the heating pad, it kind of defeats the purpose. I may go back to my original of just a small towel-covered hospital cage type with heat lamp. But for now, this is where they are and how I am keeping them warm. It IS easier to get at them than the hospital cage setup. Ive included photos of other setups Ive used, as well.
