For Michael Brown and the Citizens of Ferguson, MO Since the Heart No longer rules the hand Things are out of Hand Long ago the Heart ruled hand and mind But that was a long ago So long ago human solidarity, kindness, care Regard, hospitality, patience, dialogue Have shrunk in the lost garden along with the Heart Mind rules now so vicious with its Hatred Armies Bullets Guns Tyranny and its oppression But We know about heart With Heart We do not stoop to vicious instinct With heart we exercise instead, the strength of Love Love that feeds Compassion The passion for the other The passion that extends tender firmness In ways that heal deep wounds of separation, anger, hate The Passion that lets grief translate lamentation into Reverent communion of shared Heart The heart to see each other as ourselves Hold each other as the brother, the sister of our flesh Stand up to safeguard that bond that knits our body together Stand with the strength Love binds to our bones With Heart remain Human Despite the disgrace that infects our kind With heart keep our human faith That Heart will prevail over darkness with The justice of Love © Jeff Cannon, 08/14/2014, 4:52 pm, on patio: in response to a peaceful silent gathering in Worcester over the shooting of Michael Brown and for the citizens of Ferguson, MO suffering terrible unrest and civil disorder
