For People Who Want To Know How To Study The Holy Bible Following was my first entry into Wikipedia research materials. Since Wikipedia Editors will need 1-2 months to review many entries, I am sharing the contents as early as now. This should be useful for ALL who attend Bible Study Group sessions. May you find wisdom from a veteran of bible studies. Orlando R. Barone is the author of How To Study The Bible which is found within (p. xxviii) The New American Bible copyright 1987 by Thomas Nelson Inc. and classified as New Catholic Translation and published by Philippine Bible Society for the Catholic Bible Press. He recommends that in order to better understand the teachings of God in the Holy Bible, a beginner ought to be a part of a Bible Study Group. [1] Orlando also recommends two (2) to ten (10) members of the group. Beyond 10, experiences have shown decline in effective studies during the meetings. A priest or religious person should be the leader. In studying the Holy Bible, the center should be Jesus. Members have to be reminded of the proper attitude and behavior, which would include starting with a prayer related to the topic or subject matter to be taken up, and ending with a prayer of gratitude. Additional prayers should not be prevented or discouraged if anyone needs to pray for something. There are two ways considered WEAK approaches to the study of the Holy Bible, according to Orlando R. Barone, First is what he called Word-to-live-by approach wherein one or more members search the bible to look for verses in order to prove something already decided in the mind. He observed how it tends to make people cite portions outside of the proper context. And the purpose is just to prove that one is better or more moral than the other. Another weak approach is the So there approach which can also be misleading at times. This approach is where people believe that the Holy Bible has the answers to all the questions and problems. Those who use this approach look for a set of verses from the Holy Bible to prove an answer. Still another approach is by treating the Holy Bible as a literature only. But it goes beyond being a literary set of masterpieces. And so, Orlando R. Barone proposes that the best approach is the contextual clarifications by describing the situation, location, culture, and other factors during the time certain teachings were written. What were the authors experiences back then ? Why did he say what is now written in the Scripture? Disclosing the purpose of the author of the book found in the Holy Bible should be made known. Once the context is made known, the contextual approach should be followed by a thematic approach. This can be studied from different viewpoints, e.g. from Gods viewpoint, from mans viewpoint, from a spiritual beings point of view, and from the worldly mans view. Finally, he reminds those who study the Holy Bible to remember that the contents were written by many authors and during different circumstances in time spread out over 2000 years.
