For Simonè Grobbelaar A young girl was getting ready to start - TopicsExpress

For Simonè Grobbelaar A young girl was getting ready to start university and was feeling excited as well as nervous at the prospect. She approached her wise, old grandmother for some words of advice. The old woman smiled and thought for a while. She set three pots of boiling water on the stove. In the first she placed a carrot, in the second she placed an egg and in the third she put coffee beans. She went on to explain to her granddaughter the following words: Dont be like the carrot. It goes into a difficult situation hard and tough but after a while it becomes softened, losing itself in the boiling water. Dont allow yourself to be broken by lifes challenges. Dont be like the egg. The egg starts off soft on the inside but after remaining in the boiling water it becomes hardened, losing its essence. As with the carrot, the egg is altered but perhaps in a worse way still, similar to one who faces lifes difficulties and in turn finds their heart hardened. The grandmother then picks up the boiling pot of water with the coffee beans and pours it in a cup for her granddaughter and says: Be like the coffee bean. After being placed in the boiling water the coffee bean releases its aromatic flavor changing the water into a delicious drink. In other words experience life, face its challenges and dont allow yourself to be softened nor hardened. Take the opportunity to flourish and to improve yourself as well as those around you. The end.
