For: Sis, Jackie Griggs Horner: From: Floss Frank Jackie was trying to tell us her version on I AM and something about your bible translator ,well lets take a look at their bible translators whom ever they may be? I will write this right out of their N.W.T 1984 John 8 : 24-Therefore I said to you ,You will die in your sins, For if you do not believe that I am [he] you will die in your sins ,so they know he is not to be there so it is in brackets do I need to tell you what they did in their more resent version ,if yes let me know. Reply, Hi Jackie, He is as ignorant and biased as they come: “…so they know he is not to be there so it is in brackets do I need to tell you what they did in their more resent version ,if yes let me know.” Just look at what his own Trinitarian translations say: John 8:24 New International Version I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins. New Living Translation That is why I said that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins. English Standard Version I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” New American Standard Bible Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. King James Bible I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Comment The KJV puts “he” in italics in order to make explicit and bring out the English sense, the NWT (older one) uses square brackets [ ] to do the same as the KJV, the RNWT has “I am the one” the term “one” replacing the term “he”! The NASB also puts some words in italics, just as the KJV bibles does and all one has to do is look at both (as examples) look at Trinitarian translations at Col 1:15-20 and one will see that each of Trinitarian translations have different words counts for the same original Greek of the same Col 1:15-20: KJV=135 words NASB= 139 words NWT= 160 words NAB=123 words NIV=127 words NRSV=127 words Ab=194 words Some translations use some sort of indicator that words have been added, as Greek and English are not exact matches word a word to word translation, some translations use italics, the NWT uses square brackets, in order to make explicit, what is implicit in the original Greek, many Trinitarian translators don’t even bother to inform their readers, that they have added words, so readers may assume that is what the original Greek says, but that is clearly wrong, these slip in words that are not even implied in the original Greek and therefore, insert unwarranted words for theological purposes the NIV and the GNB being but two examples of the many, yet Trinitarians omit these important matters and allow their ignorance and spoon fed bias to point the finger solely at the NWT, such two faced hypocrisy What he is doing is ignoring the context; Jesus isn’t claiming a title, such as “I am” as the NLT leads its readers to believe, thus contradicting other Trinitarian bibles, as the verb “eimi” is expressing simple existence and the context shows that Jesus exists or is existing (at that time) as the promised Messiah, as he is the “light of the world” and in the “judgement” Jesus is not alone, but has the Father with him, Jesus is the one sent by the Father! Notice the context of John 8:24-26 NASB “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” 25 So they were saying to Him, “Who are You?” Jesus said to them, “ What have I been saying to you from the beginning? 26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.” Unless, these men believe that Jesus is “He” (NASB) that is, the one sent by the Father, they will die in their sins! the context makes it plain and just as importantly, so do these Trinitarian translations, as the make explicit what is implicit in the original Greek and that is the verb “eimi” is to be understood, not just in its basic sense, but as “I am [he]” NWT, “I am He” NASB, “I am he” KJV… I put in the NLT, as it tries to give a Trinitarian twist to John 8:24 So, if Prof. “Floss Frank” wishes to continue to cherry pick holes in the NWT, perhaps his bias and hypocrisy can start with his own Trinitarian translations! The reason why the new RNWT does have the square brackets, is that such brackets are not now necessary to make that which is implicit, explicit, as the contextual understanding is left up to the intelligence of the reader, hence the surrounding verses of John 8, just as we see in other translations, and if Prof. Floss wishes to criticize the RNWT further, then again, he had better take off the blinkers and start with his own Trinitarian translations! Here is a little present for Prof. Floss and Co: Additional information not contained in the above! John 8:58 “The absolute truth is that I was in existence before Abraham was ever born!” LB “Jesus said to them, “For sure, I tell you, before Abraham was born, I was and am and always will be!” NLV “Jesus answered, `I tell you the truth. I already was before Abraham was born.” WE The NASB in its 1970s editions, had in its footnote: “I have been” Also, in regard to John 1:1 there are some 70 translations that translate similar to the NWT, and of these 70 there are some 18 that translate exactly as does the NWT at John 1:1, either as “a God” or “a god”, yet the finger of blatant blind bias is always pointed at the NWT!
