For Somalia Drive expansion: Liberia, Japan sign $US50 million grant By Emmanuel Zinnah Preisdent Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Japanese Ambassador His Excellency Naoto Nika (mylbsonline/Liberia)-Liberia and Japan have signed a US$50 million grant for the finally expansion of the Somalia Drive in Gardnerville, Monrovia. Japanese Ambassador to Liberia, Naoto Nikai, told mylbsonline Monday, June 10, 2013, that the signing of the grant was his government’s commitment toward Liberia’s rebuilding prpcess. “Japan-Liberia bilateral ties would further be strengthened through infrastructure development for Liberia.” Ambassador Nikai added. Responding, Liberian Foreign Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, praised Japan for the gesture and recounted the long-standing relations between their respective governments and peoples. ”The grant is intended for the expansion of the Somalia Drive in Gardnerville, outside the Liberian Capital, Monrovia.”Minister Ngafuan said. “The signing of the grant also manifests the just-ended Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).” He noted. Prior to this grant, Japan has been involved in several infrastructure development of Liberia in recent months, including the construction of schools, power plants, among others. Japan is also committed to implementing and promoting the framework of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in the area of infrastructure development of African nations.
