For Wendy Davis, Texas has always been a place of tremendous optimism and endless opportunity. At 14, she went to work to help support her family. At 19, she was married, divorced, and raising her child alone in a trailer in east Fort Worth. She struggled to make ends meet until a co-worker gave her a brochure for Tarrant County College. After community college, she continued to Texas Christian University where she graduated first in her class. She later went on to Harvard Law. Davis returned to Texas and served on the Fort Worth City Council for nine years before being elected to the Texas Senate in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. She is currently running for governor of Texas.
