For a long time now, Ive wanted to do something. Ive wanted to - TopicsExpress

For a long time now, Ive wanted to do something. Ive wanted to virtually teach an online meteorology course via the Internet. Ive put a lot of thought into this, AND I have put a lot of thought into the material. This would be a course that would be appropriate for anyone ages 14 and up (as long as its a 14 year old that REALLY wants to learn weather, otherwise it would be a waste and no one wants that)! After completing this course (would take around 6 weeks and include 2 topics per week), for a total of 12 simple and broken down courses that would make you weather savvy at the very least, allow you to use the internet to develop YOUR own forecasts, and to help you and your family during extreme weather. Basically I want to empower you to use what is available on the internet (almost everything), to put together your OWN forecast without ALWAYS having to rely on others. Sometimes its good to know you truly understand why your favorite meteorologist made the choice that he or she made concerning the weather forecast for today, or even more importantly, if severe weather is going to occur, and where. If you, a family member, or a friend who is into weather would like to take this 6 week (12 Course Class) that would tentatively be set to start in late August/Early September and end in early October/Middle October at the latest. So many people in this are have been impacted by weather; its only natural that this area would be a hot bed of meteorology sound people. We start basic, and then we jump in deep, but understand this; if you have a solid interest in weather, you will NOT have a problem with this course. Youll be begging for extra things! Here is a preliminary list of how I have things set up and ready to teach...this could change if the group wanted it to change. Remember, my goal is to enlighten you on something that WILL have an affect on your day every day: Weather! 1. -Outlooks, Watches, Warnings, Advisories, and Special Weather Statements (what does it all mean? 2. -Interpreting radar data yourself, including the new dual polar products (I will show you how to get a free trial from a radar vendor that will last 30 days.) 3. -The Basic computer models we use and how we get the data that goes into them (NAM, GFS for example-youll be able to spit out those acronyms nicely by the end)! 4. -Heat waves, hot weather and how to protect you and your loved ones (preventing children from perishing in hot cars, heat exhaustion, heat stroke 5. -Winter Weather Forecasting (snow, rain, freezing rain, sleet, PLUS why it just doesnt like to snow in AL)? 6. -Severe Weather Forecasting (learn the parameters we look for not only days out, but in the very hours leading up to the severe t-storms/tornado event) 7. -Tornadoes in general (how they form, Dixie Alley Vs. Classic Tornado Alley, Why all rotating storms dont produce tornadoes? storm chasing vs. storm spotting)? 8. -Tropical Storms and Hurricanes (how they form and their impacts well inland, why some Hurricanes produce multiple tornadoes upon landfall while others produce none). 9. -Staying safe from all the above^ while traveling (A car, truck, or SUV can be a very dangerous place to be during severe weather but it is also a safe place at times)! 10.-Developing an all weather proof safety plan for your family (from flashlights and food, to important documents, you need a plan of action that every family member rehearses). 11.-Alabama Weather History (If there is interest in it, I will gladly add MS, or TN. A LOT has happened in this part of the world over since weather records have been kept) 12.-Extreme Weather combined with social media; integrating the two.(Social Media has changed the job of a meteorologist while also empowering us in ways never imagined) So I am fully prepared to do this, but Im prepared to NOT DO this as well. I realize that money doesnt grow on trees. I will need at least 25 of you to commit to this. I would LOVE for it to be more, but I need it to be at least 25. The cost will be 40 dollars per person. I checked on similar courses available on the internet and the cheapest I found was 175 dollars, BUT that was without any personal contact. Youll be able to reach me via FB, e-mail, text, or actual phone call any time throughout the course. If its convenient for you, I would love for you to share this on your wall and add your own comments if youd like. When broken down, 40 dollars a course, with 12 in DEPTH subjects that through my education and real life experiences in TV, Social Media, and Meteorology I consider myself an expert on. Breaking it down even more...each topic out of the 12 would cost right at 3 dollar and 30 cents each. So again, I have to have at LEAST 25 commitments between now and NEXT Saturday. Of course if there are more, thats awesome, I just need at least 25 to make it a sensible project to pursue myself. Just in case, Id be good with you paying half up front and half when the course ends for those of you who dont know me as well as others if yourre concerned about the money. I think this would be an awesome chance for High School age students who are interested in the science of meteorology and who may be thinking about meteorology as a career. This may make the decision easier (depending upon whether they enjoyed it or not), and if you arent into weather, I dont recommend you take this course. I dont want to be a part of you doing something you dont want to do. Life isnt long enough for things like that! Heres what you do if you want to take the course. E-mail me (youll need a working e-mail and internet connection). There will never be any time that you have GOT to be in front of your computer at one certain time or another. Like other online classes, you will be able to watch or listen to my lessons at your convenience. I do need the 25 people though. You can e-mail me at jonb1999@yahoo and put WEATHER SCHOOL as the subject line. You can also send me a private message on FB. Its that easy. Keep in mind, its all or nothing so I wont be taking any money at all until I have the 25 commitments (hopefully more). My preferred method of payment would be Paypal, but we can always do it the old fashioned way. Thats what is keeping our mail deliverers in business! Thank you for your time. I hope to be hearing from you soon! Jonathan Burleson jonb1999@yahoo 205-412-8656
