For a lot of people this time of year is one of enjoying family, sharing in the Joy and Peace of our Faith in God, and generally being happy. We gather together with those we love and sing the Songs we all know, we eat more than we know is good for us and we are content. For many others, however, it is a time that is filled with pain and despair. It reminds them of Family or Friends who are no longer with them. They are stressed because they do not have the finances to give their children anything. They are hungry and dont know where their next meal will come from. They are homeless and the shelters are full, so they are looking for a place where they might not freeze to death at night. I would encourage you to Listen Closely to the Holy Spirit. Dont be so caught up in your celebrations that you miss what Jesus would have you do for others. Dropping your spare change in the buckets is wonderful, but dont let that be the only thing you do for others. This does not require any real sacrifice, and it does not cause you to draw closer to the Lord. In your morning prayer, ask God to make you sensitive to the leading of His Holy Spirit. Throughout the day expect to be led, then by being obedient you can be a blessing to those who need His Love and provision the most this season. He may prompt you to leave your waitress an exceptionally large tip on the coffee and sweet roll you are having with your friends at your local cafe. She may have been praying for a little extra to buy her children something nice, and does not know if she would be able to afford it. Maybe, you will be led to visit the neighbor whose home alone and missing their spouse, who is no longer with them. Perhaps you will awakened in the night and told to take blankets, coffee, and sandwiches to the place where the homeless are seeking shelter from the cold. Whatever it is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to you, you can be absolutely certain that it will be THE THING that will make a HUGE difference in someones life, God is never wrong. Be a Blessing to someone today.
