For a while before I moved Upstate I was taking vocational classes at what was then called TRI (The Rehabilitation Insitute) in St. James (now called Maryhaven). Apparently from what I gathered when I finally looked at my records there I was going to be put in the sheltered employment track there and odds are I would have been paid mere pennies on the dollar compared to a normal person. This is what happens when society has low expectations for people like me and think all were good for is flipping burgers and pushing brooms--and wasting our exceptional talents at the same time! :-(
