For a while now, during my mid-morning break, I have been eating - TopicsExpress

For a while now, during my mid-morning break, I have been eating grapes instead of smoking cigars. My own personal research has shown that grapes have a lot less carcinogens, no one complains about second hand grapes, and I don’t smell like I just returned from a fire. But, like so many things, I am very particular about grapes. They have to chill in the refrigerator all morning long, they must be firm and have a nice even color… This is just my opinion, and if you prefer your grapes warm and squishy, that’s certainly within your rights. I would never judge anyone for their own grape preferences. So, as I’m eating my grapes, if I take one out of the container and it is “squishy”, I usually toss it into the bushes and move on to the next one. One day, I fully expect a grape tree to grow right across from where we sit… ;-) The other day, I think it was Monday, I found a grape that was slightly deformed. The color was good, and it was nice and firm…but I tossed it aside because of its deformity. This left me with only 3 grapes (warning, the following contains higher math. You should have paid attention in school!) now, with only 3 grapes left, I removed the first one from the container. It was a bit squishy so I discarded it. This left me with two, one of which was a real beauty. Possibly the biggest grape I’ve ever seen. As I reached for it, it somehow escaped and rolled across the sidewalk. After rolling across my leg, over my shoe and onto the sidewalk, it finally landed just inches away in the dirt. The way the sun was shining on my grape made it look so much more inviting. The little glint of water was sparkling, as if to say “this would have been the best grape you ever had”…but, alas, I would never know…Now I’m left with only one grape, and several minutes to just sit while the big juicy one taunted me. Perhaps, in the future, I should not be so quick to discard grapes simply because I do not like the way they look. I’ve also made a few other changes, I’ve stopped drinking all carbonated and sugar filled beverages. At work, I drink water and at home a mixture of cranberry and orange juices. I try to pick the more healthy options when I eat etc. I would not, by any stretch of the imagination consider this a diet, just simply making better choices. I have decided that, if I want to stay around a little longer, it is (at least partially) up to me to make it happen. Well, I suppose I should wrap this up, so I will tell you the reason for this entire post. Sometimes, when I’m sitting outside with my good friend Tom Smith (gratuitous tagging, so he’s forced to read the entire post!) discussing philosophy, religion, politics and other trivial matters, I sometimes wish that grapes tasted a lot more like chocolate! Peace, jim
